About

We would rather
lose the job than
oversize the array.

The Green Valley is an Auckland-based solar contractor working with New Zealand businesses, farms and growers. We do the study, the design, the supply and the build — and we say no to projects where the numbers don’t hold up.

Why we work this way

Solar has a credibility problem, and it is self-inflicted.

Almost every unhappy solar owner we meet has the same story. They were sold a system sized to fill a roof rather than to match a load. The payback projection assumed a self-consumption rate the site was never going to reach. Nobody mentioned the network export limit. And when a string went offline in year three, there was no one left to call.

None of that is a technology problem. The equipment is mature, the physics is settled and the returns on a well-matched commercial system are genuinely good. The failure is upstream, in a sales process that rewards the biggest quote rather than the right one.

So we start with your consumption data and work outward, we write down what we assumed, and we stay accountable after commissioning. If the study says a 40 kW system pays back in seven years and a 120 kW system pays back in sixteen, we will tell you that even though the second one is a much better invoice for us.

How we operate

Four commitments we hold ourselves to.

01

Assumptions in writing

Every yield figure, self-consumption rate and electricity price path in our modelling is stated so you can challenge it. No black-box payback numbers.

02

Sized to load

We model several array sizes and recommend the one with the best return, not the one that fills the roof. Sometimes that means a smaller job.

03

Compliant by default

Grid-tied electrical work by EWRB-registered electricians, AS/NZS 4777.2 inverters, structural verification, and full certification on handover.

04

Still here afterwards

Monitoring configured in your name, alerting on underperformance, and a maintenance relationship rather than a farewell handshake.

Who you deal with

A direct line, not a call centre.

Enquiries come to Connor Cong. The person who scopes your project is the person who stays across it through design, build and handover.

  • Connor Cong — Director. First point of contact for feasibility, design and commercial questions.
  • Registered electrical trades. Grid-tied work carried out by EWRB-registered electricians with the appropriate endorsement.
  • Engineering support. Structural verification by a chartered engineer where the roof or structure requires it.
  • Supply partners. Direct manufacturer relationships for modules, inverters and mounting, with warranty administered locally.
Coverage

Auckland out, as far as the job justifies.

We are based in Henderson, West Auckland. Most of our work is across the Auckland region, Waikato and Northland — and we will travel further for projects where the scale warrants it.

  • Auckland region — North Shore, West, Central, South and Franklin.
  • Waikato — dairy, horticulture and processing.
  • Northland — rural and coastal sites, specified for marine exposure.
  • Elsewhere in New Zealand for projects above roughly 100 kWp. Ask us.

22a Hercules Drive, Henderson, Auckland 0612. Visits by appointment.

Next step

Find out what your roof is worth.

Send us twelve months of power bills and a roof plan. We come back with a yield model, a layout, an indicative price and an honest view on whether the numbers work.
